Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is not a day to celebrate, it is a day to remember all the ones who died at war, the soldiers that gave their life for our country.
At each Remembrance Day, I remember the brother of my grand-father who died in the second World War. Some people wear a red flower to symbolize the blood of the people who died. At each Remembrance Day, everyone takes a minute of silence for the soldiers who died at war. Some soldiers stop fighting on this day to remember the soldiers that died before them and even their friends who died.
The reason we have the poppy flower is because when the French invaded a country in the first World War, it was the season of the poppy flowers. They started Remembrance Day after the first World War because of the many men who died during the war.
Remembrance Day is celebrated on the 11th of November in all of Canada. The poem of Remembrance Day (In Flanders’ Field) was written by John McCrae when he saw the poppy flowers on a war field after the bombardment.

Joannie is a good skater. She was born on January 13, 1986 in Montreal. She is now in the senior ladies’ category. Her dream was to become one of the top 10 skaters in the Olympics. Her dream came true. She wasn’t in the top 10 but in the top 3.
Joannie appreciates all the support from her sponsors who helped her achieve her dream of being at the 2010 Olympics. Also, with help from her family, she won a lot of competitions and shows like World Vision in Peru, Skate Canada in Ontario and much more.
At the same time, she visited almost every country around the world for shows and competitions. She had strength and courage by doing the Olympics even if her mother died during the Olympics. She continued and believed in herself during the Olympics and was right to continue because she won the bronze medal.
Peace Day

Do you know what peace day is? Peace day was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981. The first peace day was celebrated in September 1982. In 2002, the General Assembly declared that September 21st was the permanent date of the International day of peace. It is dedicated to peace or the absence of war.
At Vision School, peace is important for all the students and teachers. All the classes made a project for peace day. For example, pre-K, kindergarten, and grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 made peace messages for Haïti. Grades 5 and 6 played a special game; we needed to judge different situations by saying if they were better or worse for society, more or less violent. For example, if the front window of a store was broken by someone. In conclusion, peace is really important. My school and I will do our best to make it important in the world. Not only for peace day, but all year long!
